Google to likely add support for facial recognition sensors with Android Q

Software-based face recognition has been on Android smartphones for more than a year. But in addition to a handful of smartphones, very little Android phones have a secure facial recognition facility. Think of Apple's face ID instead of Android's existing 'Trusted Face' system.
It can eventually change with Android Q. According to the XDADevelopers search, Google can finally add support for identifying the original face with Android Q. In other words, the signal indicates that the Android Q will probably have support for dedicated face recognition sensors instead of the current front-facing camera-based solution.

This sensor will make it very simple for the Android OEM to implement. It also means that we will run the Android Q feature face recognition sensor in the future of Android One smartphones.

It has also been said in the report that similar to existing biometric authentication methods, the identity of the new face will return to the PIN, password or pattern as a backup.

9to5Google also saw that it interfaces with similar biometric dialog in Android pie. As a result, this new system will be able to use for purchase, as well, which is an extra bonus.
